Unable to open/convert MOBI files

Just to follow up on the status of this...

I was told the .mobi file/ebook was a poor use of DRM decryption; that was why I could not open or convert it in Calibre. Fair enough.

But further testing by some other folks with different devices show a rather confusing situation. For example;

- FBReader, as I mentioned earlier, will open the file normally
- Kindle reader for PC will not open the file (2 users verified)
- Kindle Paperwhite 2nd Gen locks up, has to be restarted (verified...I own it!)
- Kindle Paperwhite 3rd Gen opens the file OK (user reports it is "6th Gen" Paperwhite, but I think it is the latest, a 3rd gen.)
- Nook eReader won't open the file
- Kindle Fire will open the file ok according to 2 users
- Motorola MZ609 tablet with fbreader opens the file ok

So, a DRM workaround produces some weird results that some Kindle devices will handle and some won't. Bottom line is Calibre is one of the won'ts. Not a big deal. Case closed...

Well, Kovid also said he "fixed" calibre so it won't error out, and will instead try to extract as much of the book as it can (keeping in mind the book is apparently corrupted, so there might be lost content).

MOBI Input: Warn about corrupted trailing data entries, instead of aborting. Getting some, even partially corrupted text is better than no text. See #1521830 (Calibre will not open or convert good mobi file)

Thanks for that update! I need to pay some attention to the bug tracker thing...it is not something I have ever done before...
