Swedish mobile accounts pretty much don't have data caps (and if they do, they mostly only rate limit until the end of the month you after you hit it, you don't get shut off.) My mobile acct actually does, but it's a super cheap one. We don't have "minutes" and we don't pay for incoming calls or texts, and free Wi-Fi is abundant, particularly in the cities. My kids provider doesn't even count streaming music against your data usage, that's free.
Which is to say, needing to be connected to stream audio is really a non-issue here. The elib app is pretty nice on my pc, but the android app is a bit of a beast. It works well enough once going but you have to go through a web browser to borrow the book, and that starts the app, which is ok on my tablet, but no fun on a phone screen. The sound quality is good though. Elibs biggest problem is it's search engine is horrible, and the choice is really quite limited. |

When I went on a walking holiday in Norway I was very impressed how good the mobile coverage was, because there seemed to be a mobile phone mast on the top of virtually every mountain!
Our mountainous areas are almost all National Parks, which means that there are severe restrictions on where phone masts can be built. Consequently, large parts of such areas have no mobile phone reception at all. |

Some of the towers in my area are built to look like pine trees.

Sweden doesn't have any mountains. Well they pretend they do, but being from NZ, even Kebnekaise is "a bit of a hill" to me
![]() Sweden has a govt policy to provide broadband (defined as 2Mb or better bandwidth) to every permanent house. In a lot of places, it's turned out cheaper to chain cell masts and use 4G even for household broadband in order to reach that, than to lay or upgrade landlines. About 2 years ago my mother-in-law went from having to drive 30km to work to get texts from my kids on her cell, to having full speed 4G at her house out in the middle of a forest, about 2 years ago. Was a bit mindblowing! |
