Yes, it's a shame it took so many years for unicode to catch on

and still isn't reliably everywhere, otherwise the problem might be non-existent.

Why are you accessing the books through the folders in the calibre library, instead of through calibre?

Unless you must, it's much better to treat the calibre library as a black box.
