It's a full timestamp.
Sort by date, and you will likely never get to a second-level sort criteria. (Unless you manually set the values, which defeats the whole purpose of having that column.) Last edited by eschwartz; 02-09-2016 at 09:23 AM. |

and I almost always get it backward, as to which is first ![]() (But it is real easy to flip ) Sort Title to set the order Bias, then set the Date. Same as clicking the column headers in the GUI |

As I said above, (cross-posted, actually,) the only way you can really get that to happen is if you manually edit the fields. |

Yes, so it's meaningless to have a secondary sort field if "Date" is the primary.

![]() ![]() So, yes... Meaningless to do the extra level. OP there is another tweak that sets the number of (column) sorts calibre will use in cascade ) so you can't exceed that setting and expect correct results Note: I find it difficult to imagine very many levels of useful sort before I would run into another timestamp-like case |

Thanks, everyone. This discussion has clarified a lot of issues for me.
sort_columns_at_startup = [('date', 1)] is now doing what I want. |
