Using Wordnet online for example, may not give you scrutinising but does give you scrutinise - which i expect to see..

Some experiments with the OED etc lead me to believe that the Wordnet dict is probably the best bang per buck. Seems some dictionaries aren't the best at seeing -ing etc - OED one in my tests didnt see scrutinising either.

Percival, I think installing the WordNet 3 dic from that link above will give you 99% of what you require.

Which dictionary are you using? My Aura HD using the English dictionary was able to recognize the word "flouncing" without a problem.

One of the dictionaries I have loaded into Koreader provides a definition for "flouncing" as "Flouncing" - the "dictd_www.dict.org_gcide". The next dictionary - the "WorldNet" as "flounce". The next - the "Merrian Webster 10th dictionary" as "flounce", also.

The problem with the dictionary in Kobo is that it cannot recognise conjugeted words with ing ending while reading and pressing lonng a word.

What is interesting is the fact that when you look up the word by writing it in the dictionary - it is very often found.

Therefore there must be something wrong with the search engine?

I heard that in Kindle it works flawlessly.

As a quick check:

- flounce, flouncing, flounced are all found by dictionary lookup
- scrutinise and scrutinised are, but scrutinising isn't (that's how we spell it down under)
- scrutinize and scrutinized are, but scrutinizing isn't
- spell and spelling are both found

My general experience agrees with that. Mostly, I find the word, but some of the modified versions are missing. I tend to think this is a problem with the dictionary, rather than the search engine. But, as I don't have access to the actual word list, I can't check.

And, as stated earlier in the thread, the dictionary the Kindle uses is generally accepted to be better than the dictionary that Kobo uses. If the dictionary is important to you, then a Kindle is the way to go.
