For what it's worth, I've managed to get any and all ADE versions to run under Wine. It's a bit of a pain in the ass for 3.0 and later since they require the .NET Framework version 3 and/or 4/4.5, but it's definitely possible. All you need to do is use Wine 1.7 (possibly the -staging branch) and follow the Wine AppDB instructions for installing .NET 4 (since that also pulls in 3 thus necessarily also 2). Don't skip the "switch the prefix to Windows XP, install whatever, switch it back to Windows 7, install another whatever" steps, though. They're important.

FWIW, the latest winetricks run on a clean wineprefix can install ADE 4.5
Runs fine for me -- I do have win 1.7.54 (Arch Linux). Code:
winetricks adobe_diged4 |

Thanks for that. I hadn't bothered to check winetricks lately, so I didn't know I could run later versions of ADE.

It was just added Tuesday Nov 3: https://github.com/Winetricks/winetr...ced08ffddb01aa
When I noticed, I bullied the maintainer into keeping both versions just in case. ![]() So Apprentice Alf is safe, as are people who would rather not discover their books no longer work on E-Ink devices. ![]() |
