5.4.0 and 5.6.1.0.4 both seem to have disappeared for the PW-2.
I guess we can do without backup copies of those.

Just to save the O.P. from reading the FGA:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/G7G_Firmware...le_5.4.3.2.bin

And KindleTool is, of course, in NiLuJe's snapshots thread (prefix: tools)

Edit:
And if someone wants to help me test this backup archive I am building, see if:
https://objects.dreamhost.com:443/or...res=1443907525
works for you.
And of course, report back in this thread.

Note: You have to try it within one day of this post - that link expires in 24 hours.

@knc1: The earliest supported version is 3.0.3, IIRC .

Yeah, that libarchive was the major trouble spot when building for my home machine.

It requires a minimum autotools that requires a more recent system library than I had installed.
But selecting the most recent release (which is already autotooled) took care of that rough spot.

Tap that link above for me - see if my setup will serve internationally.
If not, I might have to change the account options.

how to disable auto upgrade

hi guys, thanks for your clear guidance. I've just finished flashing my KP2 to 5.4.3.2. Just one more question:

how to make sure my kindle stays at 5.4.3.2, rather than upgrade to higher versions sneakingly?

Backdoor lock.
It is only the 5.6.x series that can defeat it.

Can I just make a readonly file called "update.bin.tmp.partial" in root folder? Does this prevent kindle from downloading the bin file?

what do you think?

There are mixed reports of that.
Use all three names suggested recently.
Make directories not files.
Its FAT32 - I don't think that supports read-only.

= = = =

Now that you have a restore Kindle, why not try KOReader (which is supported) before you trash it up with Doukan (which is not supported)?

Thanks for the check-up.
I am very glad to see that it is working.

Some cloud storage services (Amazon) charge an extra fee for International.
I could not find any mention in this ones T&C -
Even better yet, I don't see any 'special fees' in the account billing from yesterday.

So my task for this weekend is to gather up everything that Amazon still makes available and duplicate it on this storage service.
That will give us a 'backup of the other backups' that are not being maintained any longer.

- - - -

And this adventure reminded me that I haven't built a copy of s3cmd for the Kindles in quite some time.
There have been enough changes (including an rsync-like feature) that it should be worthwhile.
(Its a Python program, and you are already building a recent Python for the Kindles.)

@Dear Moderator -
Perhaps a few 'angry red' words in the first post that the PW-2 had an engineering change that now requires 5.4.3.2 as the minimum.

This was the second or third 'revised pw2' that had been trashed by the installation of a too-old image and kernel.

I don't recall - buried as off-topic discussions in other threads.

Here is the key quote from the O.P:
Quote:
I have downgraded a couple of other PW2s from 5.4.2 to 5.4.0....
If the PW-2 was running 5.4.2 - then it was a 2Gbyte model.
So the thread title can be mis-leading, it only applies to those original 2Gbyte model that where updated to 5.6.5, not the 4Gbyte models that where updated to 5.6.5 (5.6.5 runs on every touch screen device except the KT and PW-1).
