I expected to see All The King's Men for Louisiana.
The Yearling seems out of date for Florida - why not something by Carl Hiaasen? |

I don't know, Rawlings is well-loved in Florida, plus it won a Pulitzer.
I would have chosen Cross Creek though. Last edited by BenG; 09-08-2015 at 07:12 PM. |

Willa Cather is another who might have been a multi-state contender; I would have been tempted to choose Death Comes for the Archbishop for New Mexico. but then what for Nebraska?

Some strange choices, indeed. I'm with several here -- All the King's Men for Louisiana, and almost anything else for California. Cannery Row or East of Eden certainly feel right, but you could also make a case for Tales of the City for one end of the state, or how about something set in the '49 Gold Rush? IAC, the real problem with lists like this is that very few states are single entities. New York is the city plus upstate. Michigan is two VERY different peninsulas. California is three very distinct entities - Northern, Southern and the Central Valley.

Lonesome Dove for Texas.
This time of year Friday Night Lights would be more accurate. Note: the book not the movie. Cindy: do not rant even if the only thing accurate about the movie was Tim McGraw's character. |
