How many people looking for a premium tablet think of B&N first? Especially when the tablet can be found elsewhere. |

They should have invested in a larger eInk screen. Something Amazon doesn't offer. They certainly have customers who want that, along with Amazon folks who need to use a large font size (plenty of those). In time for Christmas...plus in store support. That would generate lots of buzz.

This deal just makes them look further out of touch and sooner to disappear from the ebook market. |

It makes sense now. Lifetime support can be easily promised since it only has to last until B&N finally goes belly up.

The hardware (CPU and GPU-wise) of the Samsung is definitely better for gaming and video but that is not going to help boost Nook sales whereas the premium price, at a time of declining Android tablet sales and growing sales of cheap WinTabs, isn't going to bring in new readers into the Nook garden.
Most of their hardware sales today are looking to be to their commited Nook customer base so, seriously, how many existing Nook HD and HD+ owners are going to drop $400 on a replacement? How is this thing going to sell more ebooks? Now, the move might make sense if B&N started selling Samsung high-end TVs and BluRay players and were moving to compete with Magnolia but otherwise...? ![]() |

To make sure I understand right - a non-BN device running the Nook App does NOT have access to Read in Store? As opposed to the Nook shell run on a BN version of an otherwise "normal" Samsung device. Just checking. This is close to the last advantage I see on the BN device vs. a generic tablet with the Nook App. This is an advantage to me. I'm devil's advocate to the (apparent) majority who want e-ink. I want color (covers and photo-heavy magazines) and CC, which means tablet. My NC, they can't have back. It's on future-proofing backup duty. Oh, and full magazine (including photos, pictures, etc.) future-proofing, which Nook for PC does not handle. ![]() |

The user manual is available at BN. Also the 10% discount ends on 9/23/2015.
With the split library, I wonder if I disinfect the BN book, then replace the same book in the s2's nook library, will it still be recognized....Don't remember doing that with the HD+. Cannot do that now as the HD+ is running cwm-11 & didn't save the original firmware. Too bad calibre won't read the Aldiko's catalog for updating the Calibre's catalog. |

Barnes & Noble nook, this is why you are dying: You have just announced your $400 tablet, and Amazon is on the way to releasing a $50 tablet:

![]() Read In Store has become Free Sample on everything. I must have checked close to 20 books. Sigh. It's not all that big a deal for what I want (mostly). I can still read a number of pages, see the 1st cover, decide if I like that book or not. Downsides: 1) I buy a lot of backlist books as part of ongoing migration of a big DTB library to ebooks. So, I look at a lot of omnibus editions. Sometimes, if I like the covers enough, I'll get the individual books if the covers are not all included in the omnibus. Well, ok, it only happened once. But still. Samples will never include that much of the book. 2) Dratted samples! They install into my account (thumbnail on all devices whether downloaded or not), and the only way to get rid of the fool thing is to go to the online BN account and delete there. Which is a pain, and disincentive to looking at borderline books more closely....RIS just neatly disappeared when I closed them. **Sigh** 3) For the bench warmers - the bench won't have much time to get warm. If one needs to closely watch the budget and truly Read in the Store - get a BN device. That said....Oh, joy, loading a whole year's worth of magazines! Full library with a few clicks (via CC)! No limit (well, anytime soon)....Happy camper. ![]() And, yes, the screen really looks great - the photos pop. Very nice. P.S. I did buy the cover from BN. The BN cover has a Portrait stand built in (for reading books); BB cover's stand is Landscape (for...well, other stuff). The BN cover is also a nicer color and less expensive. |
