That's good news, I suppose.
Although you could always tell when flash was active, because of the urlbar icon. (Sometimes it was active when there was nothing obvious on the page, which told you someone had a flash advertisement. ![]() |

I had to install Flash earlier this year so I could watch the UK TV Channel 4 on demand service (4od).

I pay for Crunchyroll and Funimation. Both use flash videos.

Personally I take the opposite view I think HTML5 is bloated and performs worse than flash it also can't accomplish as much. It also annoys me a lot my old gingerbread phones worked great with flash and my new ones can't even view it.
Another thing to bear in mind is I've recently noticed Virgins catchup service in the UK (and I'm sure others) insist on genuine flash and refuse to work with even chromes "pepper flash" substitute. |

![]() The good news is that HTML5 is a standard, so anyone who wants can create their own, better version. Competition is good, it's why we have standards for the web. Quote:

http://anywhere.virginmedia.com/unsu...wser/warning// Yes the removal annoys me because it worked perfectly and now I have to resort to Puffin browser to actually see the web properly. Also yes in fact chrome does not have the real Adobe flash they run their own sandboxed plugin called Pepper Flash which is useless on the sites with secured content like Virgins. ![]() But then, I've never used pepper flash, since that would require installing Chrome. Closed-source applications are a PITA to integrate with package managers, even if I liked the browser, which I don't. As for the security -- flash has been hacked. ![]() Maybe they should hire better programmers. Maybe they can rent them from Netflix. |

I really wonder how Netflix does it then... As far as I know, they also have secure video (they used Silverlight instead of Flash) and they offer a HTML5 video player...

What does that have to do with your claim that Flash is more secure than HTML5? As I said, if they can't secure HTML5, maybe they should hire some of Netflix's programmers to write them a secure HTML5 service.

Point is simply it's not a flash replacement it lacks too much, getting rid of flash is the same as putting the internet back 10 years.

No, HTML5 offers all (or has the potential to offer all) that Flash offers. And more. And lighter. And is available on all devices that offer a browser. So, I don't agree that it puts the internet back 10 years. In fact, 10 years ago, there were plenty of sites I couldn't access with my PDA because it didn't have flash. And there are hardly no sites now that I can't access with my phone/tablets because they don't use flash.

Flash is standalone it will look and perform the same on all browsers and all systems, you know 99.9% of systems will support it. HTML5 is a stupid idea that was hailed as the future by Apple simply because they wanted to save money with inadequate hardware, instead we have gotten bloated slow browsers and web pages tripling in size because of it. Microsoft also know HTML5 is going nowhere and that's why they made silverlight. |
