This only happens when Sigil is not already running when I open the file

Read the rest of the thread, please. It's not a bug. It's the intended behavior on OS X

Hi,
This is not a bug. This is expected behaviour on the Mac and has been since the very beginning. KevinH |

Thanks for the clarification, but to be honest, I’m not used to this kind of behaviour so I’m confused as to how it’s default or expected
If I start up my computer and click on a .txt file, how many documents are open? Just one. Yes, if I had launched TextEdit, and then gone to open my file, I would have ended up with two. That’s what I understand as mac default. At any rate, I think that way is better. If I open up a file to edit, why would I want a blank epub lurking in the background? To save me the trouble of opening one if I need one later? Frankly I would call it a bug, because it’s far more likely to be an annoyance than a help. |

My example was terrible - TextEdit nowadays replaces the empty document loaded on startup with any document I then immediately open. To me this is ideal behaviour, but I wouldn’t say it’s expected.
