Might be cheapest if you wait for a Kobo Aura with broken display to appear. Also easier to verify its working condition...

Nice ideas to get a plain motherboard, or one with a broken screen! I'll see what I can do there. Maybe I can extract the working firmware and unbrick the original too.
Edit: on the other hand, for $35 plus $11 shipping to the US, it's almost as much as a used Mini. Hmm.... Last edited by mikeash; 09-03-2015 at 02:56 PM. |

I went ahead and got that motherboard. I'll report back on how it all goes. Wish me luck!

Nice! I hope you got a good deal. I've given a best offer with that seller for a glo motherboard before, but I guess he felt it was too low, as I am now banned from making offers on all his auctions now apparently.

Crazy to get banned for making an offer. The buyer can always say no! Anyway, I think I got an OK deal. The price seemed good originally, but shipping was high. I think I basically made up the difference in shipping. He charged $11, and the package that got to me had $5 of postage on it....
Anyway, I seem to be stuck with this new one. It won't boot at all. I notice that even my original one won't boot if, for example, the battery isn't connected to it. The new one won't boot even with everything connected, though. I don't know if it's bad, or if this is user error of some sort, or maybe it's a variant expects different display hardware, or.... well, the possibilities are just about endless, and I don't have much ability to diagnose. If anyone has any brilliant ideas I'm up to try just about anything, otherwise I think my saga might be at an end, at least on the Aura front. |
