Thank you for the screen captures. I compared them to the 1986 paper edition that I have (that was the first edition of this dictionary; yes, it's old, that's why I'm thinking of replacing it), and there is nothing that suggests that the Kindle has an abridged version. True, the structure of the 'klant' entry is different (much clearer on the Kindle), and some of the sample sentences have changed, but on the whole there is the same level of detail. And the list of index entries in screen capture #4 has even more entries than my old paper version (of course, in 1986 there was no world wide web yet).

The requirement that you must have a PW2 or better makes the purchase a bit more expensive than I suggested in my previous post, but EUR 140 for these dictionaries is still less than half the list price!

If you happen to have access to a print edition of the Dutch-English version, have a look at the definition screen capture (2_definition_example.png) and compare it with the print edition.

Thanks for testing this.

Actually, PW1 users and users of other 5.6.x firmware Kindle models might also be eligible for the Van Dale dictionary download.

When Amazon first made the Van Dale dictionaries available for download only eInk Kindles with the 5.6.x firmware could download them and the only models that had this firmware were the PW2, Voyage and Basic Kindle models.

However, since Amazon has released 5.6.x firmwares for PW1 models in the meantime, PW1 owners might also be able to download the dictionaries.
Since Amazon most likely has to pay per-download license fees, they're obviously interested in restricting the number of downloads, but I don't know if this restriction is firmware or model based.

Maybe a Dutch PW1 owner with the latest firmware can check this for you. They'll need to connect to Amazon with their Kindle at least once after the firmware update and then log in to their Amazon account and select Digital Contents > Manage Your Contents and Devices > Books > Dictionaries & User Guides and select the dictionaries for delivery.
If they sort the dictionaries alphabetically, they should be listed immediately below the user guide. (See screen capture.)

BTW, the latest Kindle for iOS app also comes with the 3 Van Dale dictionaries for free.

Yes, I think you're almost certainly right there; it's related to the firmware version, not the device.
