The black bar with the holes lifts to release the ribbon cable, if I recall correctly.
Thanks Ken..I have followed your instrustions and lifted the ribbon cable out..and the small lateral one as well...however the white top third of the screen remains white ...its as if the eink has spilt into the top third and is stuck there...I know that's not possible but that's the symptoms...I have a photo...

Sorry, that's a typical broken eInk glass substrate... the curved line is where you'll see cracked glass on the back of it.

You might still be able to connect to your PC with your USB cable and retrieve any books from your device, that you don't have a copy of already.

I guess that was what I feared the most when I started to see the screen. Maybe I broke it while opening it..although it didn't fall but I was reading (too late) that pressure on the screen could cause a crack...

Ok, Ive tried..thanks to you guys I intimately know my crippled Aura HD...

thanks everyone for your help...I feel like the Dakota's when the found out there was no gold after digging for 3 years in the glory hole (the excellent series Gold Rush).

Anybody thinking of upgrading to the H2O and want to sell me their second hand Kobo Aura HD with a working screen or just the screen ....

You are exactly right!...see photo below..the crack follows the curve...at first there was no curve...it gradually started to show up

Thanks Ken...Didn't loose books...and remember my device is running on an image I got from DavidFor.....well I reset it so that I wouldnt have his stuff on my system...so the my system just had some free books on it...

thanks for getting back to me on the problem I was having..the Kobo is toast but at least I learn't a lot...

I do remember it fell once last week...on mature recollection....and it probably broke then...it was inside a bag...and it fell quiet hard...so that must have been the fall...these things happen...

Know anyone that wants to sell a Kobo Aura HD ?

You could ask Dr.Drib in the next thread *g* but his display has odd contrast / ghosting issues, for reasons unknown. Would be interesting to find out, if it's something inherent of the display (or display cable) itself or something with battery/mainboard.

I think my sd card is corrupt. Could someone be able to send me the factory image for a Aura HD?

Thanks in advance.
