What a refreshing sense of humor
![]() So just to update, I had a spare speaker from my old phone... which is now implanted into DXG... So without the mid-frame, no functionality lost. Except UPM RFID (which I don't care about, not even an end-user related functionality anyhow!) When I get a precise scale, I'll weigh my iDXG. ![]() I had this idea even before buying DXG, but based on teardowns I see on the web, I doubted without mid-frame, the backplate would latch onto the chasse... but awesomely and luckily enough, mid-frame is nothing, it's just in the middle... no connection between backplate and chasse. I have to say, typically the most difficult part to take apart DXG is top plastic part, but in my case, it was fairly easy... you have to smartly and patiently "gitinthere" ![]() All in all, there are 24 screws (wow!!!), 22 of which are IMHO unnecessary and right now out of my DXG. ![]() Now, how do you guys think is best to steal some power and bring it to the 2 wholes on the left-side (where forks for case/cover is hung)? --- Onto more reading... I don't know about others, but I just wished Amazon didn't go away with these older models... There's something about them that is just so awesome. Yes, as you might know, I'm not really a fan of models after KT. Last edited by thatworkshop; 09-05-2015 at 06:43 PM. |

When you said:
"If they are both USB, then cobble in a usb hub chip in the existing lines to the 3G module. That will give you another USB (host) port or two inside the case." I'd need to read more about all this in details before jumping right into it. Again talking about WiFi module, I can procure antennas for it. No issues with that. Also, when opening, the right speaker plugin got a bit torn, so if I want to use the original speakers, I should repair it. Does anyone know where/if I can buy that? It's the head of speaker cable when attached to the motherboard. Last edited by thatworkshop; 09-04-2015 at 10:47 PM. |

I can't find the reference in our Wiki index.
I **think** it was from someone who added (the guts of) a flash drive to their Kindle. And the hub was from a cut down external hub (no case, connectors, etc). |

I wish "mallen" could update us if [s]he has made any progress in adding flash drive or other modules in their DX(G).

Also, it'd be a nice idea to cut down unnecessary processes on DXG to free up the burden on RAM... down to the most essentials only...

For me it looks like "JST or Molex Small Connector (F)", but you'll need to measure it's width, there are different sizes...
P.S. I've found few articles about sizes, this is most easy to understand with side by side comparison of 4 candidates *(look for image under text). Last edited by Dexmaster; 09-06-2015 at 06:44 PM. |

Great. Indeed it is JST 2 pin connector.

so what's the new weight? And does that mid-frame make it more resistant to being crushed? I often throw it in my backpack and don't want to add flex to it.

![]() TL;DR: I'm pretty sure without iDXG is as secure as DXG (i.e. with taking out mid-frame). Backplate is a nice solid backplate. Other than that, I'm pretty careful with my belongings. Also, if someone wants to add a case, then this hardware mod just makes a lot of sense. Last edited by thatworkshop; 09-08-2015 at 06:33 PM. |

I don't see any empty P1 connector on the board of my DXG.
Someone had mentioned "... the empty P1 connector, I'm pretty sure it's for SD-card." but I can't locate it!!! |
