I already have the book in anticipation and though I'm not starting right away (I need to finish up another first) it'll be the first book I read on a Kindle. I've used a tablet for the last few years and I'm excited to return to eink.
Exciting! I think you'll enjoy all of the extra features available on your Kindle. I still miss my Sony ereaders, but I do really like my Kindle Voyage. Enjoy!

Three of the seven voters were Aussies. Nothing partisan about us!

Actually it has been on my "must read" list for a while now, so I was pleased that ccowie nominated it - thank you cc!

I had a feeling that would be the winner. Not sure why, but I did.
When originally looking up books that told the immigrant experience I was surprised to find so few from Australia. There are many many to choose from regarding the Canadian, UK or American experience. I would really like to compare a little of the Canadian and Aussie literature so if some of my Aussie friends here can suggest others, I'd be appreciative.
And, having no prior knowledge of it, I'm really pleased that Tirra Lirra won!

I'll have a think about it and get back to you.

Remembering Babylon by David Malouf springs immediately to mind, though it isn't a conventional "rags to riches" sort of immigrant story at all.

We also read Kate Grenville's The Secret River last year I believe. I've read Remembering Babylon as well. Both are fine reads, but I seemed to enjoy Kate's more.

Thank you! I powered up the Sony 950 the other day to do a few things before the Kindle arrives and it was nostalgic using it again after all this time.
