The Mechanical- whatever category it falls into or crosses, it is fabulous. There are viewpoints from several "main" characters- I can't even remember if they are all first person. But didn't matter- gripping, fascinating story without YA leanings.

Lilith Saintcrow has 3 books in the steampunk era. Think she mostly(still?) write "romance"novels tho.

The steampunk books has sorcery/magic, robotics/mechanical-stuff & someone who as a good mind in diagnostics; all 3 entities are embodied in 3 different persons.

^Oooo, that's a draw (Tom Holt). I've been looking for Steampunk books for my genre reading challenge for 2016. I know I look early and for too long, but it's a lot of fun.

If you like magic-infused dark fairytale steampunk, try The Singular & Extraordinary Tale of Mirror and Goliath. I've just finished it and thought it was excellent. It has a companion novel, also, The Contrary Tale of the Butterfly Girl.
