It is worth while to get that sorted in case you want to sideload larger music or video files that cannot be emailed let calibre manage the USB transfer - it knows where to put stuff, takes care of cover art.... the "right click" thing you are doing - what is sending the email and to where - calibre ? your email client ?. the one advantage of mail it to amazon it that a copy also goes into your cloud. the downside is that you can't email azw ( I think) and you must set mobi to "old " or to "both" in the relevant preferences page of calibre, for mail via amazon to work. |

The Send to Kindle program (or browser addon) is essentially the same thing as emailing documents to your kindle's email address. It still goes to Amazon's servers to be pushed to the device in question. It certainly doesn't go directly to your device through local wifi as suggested earlier. It just doesn't rely on email to GET to Amazon's servers in the first place. So far as I know, the same no AZW3/KF8 rules apply to Send to Kindle--just like the email/conversion service.

I am with Kubuntu 14.04 LTS.
Can I use the Amazone tools? If yes, does someone have a link, please? |

I think at Hitch's suggestion, I bought a 99-cent app that enabled me to find the tablet on my web browser, and from there on I could fetch the file from the computer. Actually easier than plugging in the USB cord. But now I generally use Send to Kindle app, which is easier yet. I've never had a file larger than say 4 MB, but I assume they'd go wirelessly using the other system. |

yes, you only need usb for big files - like a 1 Gb video. both send to kindle and Calibre companion are fine for books, though send to Kindle has some limitations.
you can also add misc unconverted docs e.g. word docs, PDFs to your documents folder at amazon cloud , if you keep a copy of your cloud drive on your PC, & they will appear on device. I actually use dropbox for misc stuff, that also works well. Get the dropbox app onto fire tablet going to dropbox.com with silk browser and downloading the app. it is still not in amazon appstore |
