Yes because then the screen is free of greasy fingerprints. And it seems like everything is touchscreen nowadays and once the screen dies, you're royally screwed because that means the entire device is useless now. Just my .02.

Voted "don't care" because it used to matter, but now I have a button-less kindle (7th gen 2014) and I am finding I like it so much more.

I am tired of getting a page turn when I am trying to look up a word in the dictionary, or bring up the menu, or highlight. I am also convinced that some of the unintentional page turns on the Voyage, at least for me, come from the touch sensitive area coming too close to the bezel. I have had page backs happen when I am trying to use the left hand page forward button. |

So, what would you use a device that has working buttons, but a non-working display for - a paperweight?

I voted yes! I like buttons! After reading about all the screen problems over the years...I think buttons are more reliable. I don't want to think about what part of the screen I need to tap or swipe or pinch to get where I want to be.

I liked the KK buttons, but I confess to preferring waterproofing, and I get along with touch screens just fine. I would prefer finer configurability of touch zones, though.

Don't need 'em. Wouldn't care if they there (in addition to touch), but I probably wouldn't use them.

One doesn't preclude the other. I think when people hear 'page turn buttons' they think of the ones on the first Kindle.
The Nook Simple Touch has page turn buttons, but they are covered by the same material as the rest of the bezel. Those types of buttons could still easily be added to a waterproof e-reader. |

I voted no, because touchscreens work perfectly well (for me). While I wouldn't be morally offended if they were there, I certainly don't "want them". It would be disingenuous to reply "I don't care", that's what the "no, I don't want them" is for...
Besides, keeping legacy technology can only serve to increase the cost, which is something I do actively care about. Quote:

I don't really care a whole lot. Yes, on my PRS-650 I use both, depending on the circumstances, but I doubt if I would miss the buttons much if they weren't there.

I have a kindle 4 NT and I like the buttons. Particularly at the beach or pool side I put it in a plastic quart freezer bag and I need buttons not touch screen. It's the only thing keeping me from upgrading to a paperwhite.

I have the Kindle 4NT. I think those are (and I haven't used a voyage yet, so I can't judge them) the best button design yet. I did not like the Sony buttons. The Jetbook slider was ok, but it was one handed. The K4NT buttons are in just the right spot with just the right amount of pressure (for me) so that I can hold the reader with my thumb resting on the buttons and never have to move it as I read.
I would have loved that type of button stuck on to the Paperwhite. And yes, include a firmware option of turning them off under settings for anyone that hates buttons. S |

I prefer buttons. As far as them breaking, my Sony T-1 buttons are still going strong. When reading on my Note 2, I use the volume rocker to turn the pages. Having a screen all smudged with fingerprints drives me up the wall.
