did you fully charge it before using it? mine took a little over 4 hours, not the 3 hours as the quickstart guide said.

Yes, I did. I have now charged it overnight using the USB to the computer and it says 100%.

Flicking and reading pages, turning it on and off and generally trying to test it out to see how long the battery lasts.

I have the supplied 1GB SD card in the top slot of the Cybook and I believe that drains some battery.

I seem to remember Harry T saying it takes a few charge discharge cycles before the indicator is reliable.

peter, is your Gen3 the 512meg model? If so, move the content from the SD card to internal memory and remove the SD card as you don't need it.

Ooooo it has jammed again. Stuck on the opening screen that says Cybook Gen 3.

This is no good. Does not respond to any buttons or pressing reset...

Power was 100% a few minutes ago.

Damn thing. Plugged into the USB on the computer for a few moments and it woerks now. Power still 100%. Is this normal????????

Hi, Peter. Don't Panic!

This seems to be a bug with the newest firmware version, and contrary to some of the experience on the forum, this has actually been the first instance of malfunction in my Cybook which I've had since December. I really, really doubt that this is a hardware issue.

Easy to fix, though annoying. On the back of your device (take it out of the case) you'll see a little indentation with a tiny button. That's the manual reset, and you can press it with a pen or a 3.5mm audio jack. Hold it down for a second or so, and then press the power button. This should reboot your system.

(Also, don't be alarmed that the screen doesn't go blank after you press the reset button.)

First, move the ebooks and other user files (music and images) to the SD card folders. Then, re-flash the Cybook with Build 708. Also, when you're disconnecting from the PC, use the Safely Remove Hardware option. That's the little gray box with the green, left-pointing arrow on top of it, which resides on Windows' taskbar - on the side opposite of the Start button. (At least, that's where they are on my WinXP system, it may be different under Vista.)

I don't *know* this, but I'm betting that from Build 681 upward, the firmware is a bit sensitive to how the internal flash memory is manipulated by the PC during file transfer. If you keep your books, pictures and music on the SD card, you should experience less trouble.

I say that using internal flash memory at this point is useless, even with the larger capacity, if the application firmware doesn't handle the interface between PC and Cybook properly.

Back when I first got my Cybook (build 538 I believe) I had a problem with it remembering where I had left off in a book. I moved all of my books to a SD card and haven't had any problems since. So, personally, based on my experience, I would say put everything on a SD card and never plug the Cybook into a computer (assuming that you have a wall charger that is). I find that it is much more convenient to add books by pulling out the SD card and using a card reader anyway.

Boy howdy does it EVER!

Still, things are doing well on the 64MB and the 512MB units as long as I keep everything on the SD card.

One of my problems is that I 'darknet' many books and then run them through either Mobipocket Creator or BookDesigner. However, I seldom import them into my PC copy of Mobipocket. So that means I don't let Mobipocket do the transfer to the Cybook. This may well be why attempting to transfer them to the \eBooks folder on the Cybook causes problems - even when I use "Safely Remove Hardware".

As putting them on the SD card and doing a "Safely Remove Hardware" eliminates this problem, I don't see the need to deal with the complexity of handling everything through the PC's Mobipocket Reader.

What really gets to me is that Hanlin's V3 is now handling non-DRM'd .lit files as well as handling .pdf files much better than the Cybook. If they can do this, why can't Bookeen get even Mobipocket to work better? It is frustrating. Of course, now that I know they're about to release a new version from Hanlin Jinke that adds touchscreen and wifi, I wonder if I should be buying a V3 at this juncture. Yes, I'd get "instant" Open Inkpot and FBReader support, but is that enough of an "upgrade" compared to what might be available in a few months?

Well yes, I understand that which is why I recommended putting everything on the SD card via a card reader. It seems to prevent a lot of problems. I've only had a problem with corruption on my SD card once (and it is possible I caused that). Of course, I use a Mac so syncing with Mobipocket isn't an option for me and I have a wall charger so there is very little reason for me to plug my Cybook into a computer.

Relatively new Cybook owner here!
Think it's a matter of personal preference whether you use internal memory or SD card.
What I will say however is, if you do plan on using a card, make sure it's formatted to FAT or FAT32, and then ensure you put it into your Cybook and connect to your computer the first time at least so it automatically has all the corresponding folders etc.
I believe it can cause problems if you don't (not the kind you're having, sorry I can't be any help on that, but if I can prevent any future headaches....)
