That's what Sigil is for. Open it up, find it in the tree on the left, and edit away.

Alternatively, know that epub files are actually zips. Unzip using your favourite unzipper, find and edit the file with your notepad equivalent, then zip it all up again. Calibre actually has a epub editor tool on a context menu which automates this.

Orrrr, you can just Edit the book in Calibre.. (should be an option in the Right click menu)'

(I'll probably never convert the Sigil faithful, but the Calibre editor is really good now.)

Thanks so much, guys.

I have edited the file on calibre. I don't have my kobo right now but I'll test it soon.

I was only considering a real TOC html page, like shown in this screenshot, and not just accessed from the <-> icon in the menu. I always prefer a real TOC page and I assumed that's what you were referring to.

So you're right, there's no TOC just from the <-> icon. But it does appear once I let Sigil create a real TOC html page as part of the book, then the <-> works as it should as well.

Sorry for the misunderstanding and confusion.

Still no success :/

I have edited the book on Calibre, deleted the old version on the Kobo and the ToC is still not there.

Am I missing something here? Did you succeed in viewing the ToC on the Kobo?

Hum... Can I do that on Calibre? Could you share this new ebook file?

Yes, it works just fine on the Kobo once the ncx is fixed.

The top of the file should look like this:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<ncx xmlns="http://www.daisy.org/z3986/2005/ncx/" version="2005-1" xml:lang="en">
<head>
<meta name="dtb:uid" content="202cc276-dc77-4347-a8e1-1ec1cadec489"/>
<meta name="dtb:depth" content="1"/>
<meta name="dtb:totalPageCount" content="0"/>
<meta name="dtb:maxPageNumber" content="0"/>
</head>

Then I would give my solution a try. In Sigil, you create the TOC from Tools, Table of Contents, Create HTML Table of Contents. It will generate the file and place it at the front of the book. Then it all works from either the <-> icon or from the TOC page itself. Calibre must have a similar option to create a TOC.

You might have to delete the book from the reader, restart it and then add the book back again. It's possible it's still showing the old copy of the book if you didn't do a restart between copies.

Edit: I uploaded my copy to DropBox that you can get here to see the difference.

I've just downloaded the book, made the changes suggested in Sigil (file is actually toc.ncx), fixed the justification for good measure, downloaded to my Glo HD, and all is good. The ToC shows fine using the <-> icon. Here is the changed file in Calibre's editor:

Thanks so much you guys! I've recently got the ereader and started working with Calibre so I'm still find my way around it, but it's really nice to know there's such a helpful community involved in it.

Many apologies. I had actually read those guidelines, so no excuses. Seemed like a small enough pic, but I should have checked. Curse today's hi-res monitors!

Thanks, IanD.

One alternative, if you wish, is to simply do an attachment to your post.
