Seriously, are you actually interested in buying a Kobo H2O, or do you just like complaining?

If the former, then church mouse has given you great advice - buy from John Lewis who are one of the best UK companies. Your free delivery and 2-yr guarantee contract will be with them not Kobo.

If the latter, then I advise you to buy a Kindle. I hear tell their customer service is second to none.

The Kobo H2O does have a British English dictionary. What makes you believe that it doesn't?

Every rep & online help at Kobo have said to me that the native one is American English only. Also they have said you can't add one in to replace the onboard one. And the only one I've seen reference to people side loading in is from the early 1900's. Plus googling over the past few days has led to me seeing repeated references to the lack of a British English dictionary.
If it does have it I will do a little dance because it's the only thing I don't like about it.

When I had my H2O (I no longer have it, so unfortunately I can't check) I'm 99% sure that there was a British English dictionary. Perhaps someone else who uses one in the UK (Josie?) can confirm that?

I just use them for books. If I was ever to buy a Kobo reader I'd get it from either John Lewis or Argos, and just expect a standard one-year warranty, as provided by Kobo.

I've previously chatted to WH Smith when considering the Kobo Aura and discovered they would only accept returns/exchange if the item was faulty because they had to go through Kobo. Which is one of the reasons I opted for the Paperwhite (surprised you think Amazon's customer support is anything like as hit and miss as Kobo's seems to be). I wouldn't rule out getting a Kobo reader in future, but I'd buy online from anywhere other than Kobo directly.

My UK H2O has an ‘English’ dictionary which caters for British English spelt words but is an American English dictionary e.g. one can search and find an explanation for "colour" but the explanation will use the word "color".
That may be a killer negative for the OP.

Yeah I spoke to JL earlier & they said that they go through Kobo for the first year & 3rd party techs for the second. But they did promise that they wouldn't send you a refurbished one as a replacement (if it couldn't be fixed). So I haven't completely ruled them out yet. I want to see if Kobo offer any discounts/offers etc when they fix their website & start selling them again before I take the plunge. Hope it's this week.

The thing with the Paperwhite (which I looked at along with the Kobo) is the lack of epub support. Most of my stuff is epub (without drm) & I use Aldiko on a tablet. Plus I like the size of the Kobo Aura H2O, bigger. Plus it has an SD card slot. Plus it's more cat kicking a drink over it proof.

I'm terrified of how much more fragile people on this forum are saying they are versus a tablet but that holds true for all e-ink devises.

Thanks, I'm resigned to the lack of British dictionary.

Thank you - that's probably what I was remembering. My only concern is that it found British spellings, which it assuredly does.

A quick test on my Mini (which is running 3.15.0 so I doubt it's any different) shows the "English" dictionary often gives British definitions but in terms of US ones - so 'lift' got me elevator and 'boot' had 'automobile trunk' amongst the list of meanings. Not ideal for a stand-alone dictionary but not terrible.

Of course that depends what you use it for.

Thanks for that
If you don't mind terribly, would you look up 'momentarily' & see if it gives you the correct English definition or the American definition?

Three definitions:
1. For a moment
2. Instantly
3. At any moment : in a moment

So both?

Thank you does it make clear which definition is British & which is US? Or does it just give you two definitions & leave you to guess which is correct in your country?

Another question, to anyone. On the android Kobo app (just downloaded it) when you go into Library & then Books if you order your list by Author, it groups authors under one tab each. Is it possible on the Kobo Aura to get it to list by author, but not group each author under one tab. So you would get a long list of all your books, like you get on Aldiko? Without having to click on each author to see all your books.

No indication of which is which. There's a phonetic rendering of the word then the three numbered points, which I copied verbatim (though my phone added leading capitals)
