Try another wireless or check your MTU with some easy steps, if your MTU setting is incorrect it can cause the issue you're experiencing.

Hi, thanks for responding.

Have since tried another wireless network and kindle worked fine!...the linksys router we have is a few years old,do you think a new router would be the answer?

You may be able to fix that router by doing a reset to factor and reset it up or even use a reboot sometime works for me.

Reboot the router that should do the trick. Sometimes brown outs or just a flicker of the power messes with the router. Unplug for 10-15 seconds and replug in. Wait until your computer is able to connect then try the kindle.

I would open up a command line and run the ping command to see if you are seeing packet fragmentation, it's fairly easy to check. I have a old netgear (purchased in 2010) router and had the same issue. It's really simple to check for fragmentation. the Ping command that you need is "ping google.com -f -l 1472" If the result states that "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set" then you need to change your MTU.

This has nothing to do with WiFi or home networks. Amazon is aware of this issue with the Kindle Paperwhite but currently has no solution to fix it. I have the exact same issue, and after months of issues with downloading I finally contacted Amazon when it took DAYS to download 6 books. I was instructed to do a factory reset which didn't fix anything, but instead eliminated all notes, highlights, and words/vocabulary builder, and now 150 books were not syncing. I insisted that the customer service rep will figure out a way to restore my almost 1000 words in my vocabulary builder, which he eventually resolved to do. Amazon had to update all my books in my library and push them out to my device and I was told once a solution will be found my device was on the priority list to be updated. Since my 1-year warranty is almost up I requested to be sent an email that today's 2 hour phone call didn't resolve the issue.

I have been having the same issues with my kindle for the last few months. Usually I just cancelled the download and retry and it worked, but for the last week nada. I rested my kindle and it didn't fix the problem. I read someone mentioned here switching to another network, so I did, I paired it with my iphone and all the pending books downloaded. I also did a reset on my router and it works now over my home network!
Thank you all!

Smile It worked for a while; haven't checked lately

My devices and I took an intercontinental trip to New York City, and suddenly I was able to download books there. I haven't tried it since I got back, but I hope it's fixed now.

I am having same issue at the moment. I did a factory reset but now I get a connection error and can't register. I got Amazon support to re register it but still can't get my Kindle to connect with Amazon. It is stuck on the registration page and I have to reset it to go back to home.
I take it buying a new Kindle will not help.

Please plug it into a wall charger overnight. Then unplug and hold the power button for 40 seconds or until it reboots.
Oh and yes, a new Kindle would work. But it is a bit extreme.

Is this the DX listed in your profile? If so, is your firmware up to date?

Amazon issued a Kindle Services Update early last year for older kindle devices. This is required for the device to be able to connect to Amazon.

I bought a Paperwhite this week, and I'm having the same problem as you are.
I spent about 3 hours chatting with several Amazon techs, and they could not fix it. They promised to contact me in a few days.
There have been suggestions that the WiFi be modified, but we should not have to do that. I have four WiFi connected devices in my home, and they all work. My Fire works just fine.
I suspect that Amazon knows there is a bug in it, but they won't admit it.
Anyway, I'm waiting for Amazon to contact me.

If there's a bug in the paperwhite, it certainly isn't affecting the large majority of the population. My daughter and I just sat in my dining room today and downloaded about 10 books to my Paperwhite for her to borrow for a couple of weeks. Most of the books downloaded were purchased a while ago, but one was purchased on Thursday of last week and one was purchased today.

I'm sorry that you're having problems...have you tried doing a factory reset? If you just got the Paperwhite recently it shouldn't have much on it.
