Favorite English sit coms - Page 2

I have not been able to watch more than 2 shows of The Office on US television. It is far, far below the UK version.

There's something about "from over there" that makes comedy seem even funnier. Broadens one's horizons, or some such! I like these best:
As Time Goes By
Keeping up appearances
Are you Being Served?
Vicar of Dibley
Black Adder

And the Wodehouse ones with the butler and the toff ..... (who I always think of when I see adds for the Dr. he is currently playing)

Fawlty Towers & Ab Fab are my favs.

Also, when I lived in England back in the mid-70's, there was a comedy that took place in Wales. Just a bunch of locals in some seaside town and it took me a lot of watching before I got the humor but I did like the show. Just can't recall the name. And don't think it ever made it to the US

What ever happened to Bennie Hill? Did he die or just grow old and not sexy anymore? I loved his shows.

There were only six episodes, but I thought it was embarrassingly funny! Embarrassing in that there was always a chance of wetting your pants watching it. It was that good!

That would be Hi-de-Hi, yes?

Ruth Madoc, who I believe did the "Hi-De-Hi" announcements, also starred as Mrs Dai Bread Two in the telly version of Under Milkwood in 1972, and was the voice of Lily Smalls in the re-recording of it as a "play for voices/radio" in 1988.

There is another that I always associate (positively) for some reason with Waiting for God, but which I find difficult to watch because I associate it so much with my father (though it's as funny as hell), and that's One Foot In The Grave.
