I guess once you install that Sony Reader software, it expects you to use it (at least once in a while) ... or else.

If I want to read DRM books (such as books borrowed from the library), I had no choice but to install the Sony Reader software. I can't get these books onto my device any other way. I'm using a Mac, which means Adobe Digital Editions does not transfer DRM books to my device either. For public domain books, I don't bother with Sony's software or with ADE; I use calibre instead.

Anyway, I too am very happy that my device is working at normal speed again.
