READERS REBUILD!
Post flood news update from the Cedar Rapids Public Library
You are receiving this e-blast because you have been identified as a friend and supporter of the Cedar Rapids Public Library (CRPL).
The CRPL experienced the worst disaster in U.S. library history June 11-13, 2008, when its 85,000 square foot building was flooded resulting in the loss of everything on the main floor, including its entire adult/ youth collections, public access computers/lab, and reference materials.
News from staff, Trustees, and support organizations Friends and Foundation:
- As many of you know, the CRPL is operating out of its branch at Westdale Mall. We recently expanded and anticipate additional space will become available. Hours: Monday-Friday 10 am – 9 pm. Saturday: 10 am- 5 pm. Sunday 1-5 pm.
- To reserve or renew library materials: Adult desk, 398-5123; Youth/Children’s desk, 390-7806. The collection expands every day!
- Three Cedar Rapids citizens have been appointed by the Mayor/City Council, to the nine-member CRPL Board of Trustees, the library’s governing body. They are: retired English teacher Harriet Kalinsky; communications consultant Hilery Livengood; and nonprofit consultant and retired U.S. Navy officer Paul Pelletier.
- Return books & other library materials to West Branch, Marion PL, Hiawatha PL, or HyVee Stores in CR and Marion.
- Want to add a new book to the collection? Go to our Amazon.com “wish list.” The Amazon.com Wish List button is on our temporary website www.crlibrary.info
- Monetary donations can be made online through PayPal. Go to our temporary website www.crlibrary.info and click on the Donate button. Checks can also be mailed to: crpl Foundation, 500 First St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401.
- The crpl foundation is helping sponsor the Cedar Rapids Downtown Farmers Market 7:30 am – Noon, Aug. 16, Sept.6, and Oct. 4. Look for the booth on Fifth Street across from Waypoint and the First Presbyterian Church.
Thank you for your attention and for supporting your public library.
