guys please consider that there is a huge difference between us and the world that read 2 books per year. double eink- lcd inbuilted and light weight is just the ( 7 years)future for the masses, but is my opinion

I am hoping that in the future there will be a color reflective screen technology that pans out.
Mirasol would have been good enough for me had they sold those units from a few years back in the US.

But for my reading use, I prefer a two unit solution, with a smaller device for text and a larger device for manga. The manga reader doesn't have to fit in a breast pocket. The text reader does.

Currently I am carrying my trusty Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and a first generation KPW. Upgrading would be nice, but I am not in a hurry.

true, no hurry, in the end with a couple of devices we can manage what we want, eink with color is still a dream to admire book covers, highlight different color, and read marvel comics

Concept behind this phone is good but this particular model do not display all kind of apps fron eink side, i mean very selective and mostly it is home screen with notifications you can see.

I like the idea but don't think the 16-9 screen would work for reading over long periods on a device of that size and a 4-3 would make the device extremely uncomfortable to use as a phone.

I was very interested in these until I saw and handled one at a demo. The display was awful. The engineers had some really interesting technical improvements planned that would increase the number of color shades, but nothing that would make Mirasol suitable for reading books.

not sure about that, is an excellent eink screen imo and on the basis of the internet reviews I saw, more fluid than the average, of course some apps due to the refresh cannnot be used, like seeing a video( but still you can see it although is terrible). The first point is that are not designed for eink, and that is the reason, the second point and here I would like everybody lend their ears is:


if eink will become for instance an apple/android/w10 standard with double lcd eink screens,
then research and development of this technology will be so essential,
and this means we are more likely to benefit of kinda eink screens with color, fluidity, better definition

But what makes you believe that it's likely to become a standard? Do you think that a significant number of people are unhappy with their smartphone screens? I certainly don't get that impression.

Harry we are aware that companies can be inspired by our posts considering how is nice this forum for people that work in the sector, so I tell you hoping that major players will embrace this vision.
3 points: 1) cons 2) advantages 3) synergies

1)cons

it is likely eink-lcd will become the standard( so i cannot be sure) because an eink on the back has only one cons: the higher price.

it is a real cons? not, because we know that prices in technology go down for every thing really fast.

So the Eink AT LEAST do not harm nobody, as can be inserted on the back in place of the plastic usual cover.

2) advantages

What are instead the advantages of the eink-lcd to make it likely to become a standard now that we demonstrated that there are not real cons?
And what the consumer wants?

Consumer want batteries that last longer, nicer design, and readable screens in all the conditions.
eink-lcd give them this, so it is likely to become standard

3) synergies
mobile developers ifeink-lcd become standard could make some special app that are 1) optimized for the eink, like readers, photo, fashion images that personalize the phone, notifications customization, widgets, signals 2) that exploit the concept to be functional to spare battery so communicate between the two screens to make the user experience better, ex. sensor light and decide which one switch on 3) developers to make money will come up with genial ideas, reinventing new functionalities, that could be adopted by others as it happened for instance with whatsapp with android and then viber and the other followers that made others billionaires companies, so inventing new things will become always more useful, think over internet of things, wereables communication etc

Of course I have also others idea, like think to ereaders 6 inches tablet that are equal to the actual eink of today but with a tablet back for the same weight... and much more but I do not want to go further as I am a simple junior android developer and as happened in the past do not want to give away too many idea without making money on it
