1. makes a lot of sense. 2. with so many versions of C++ installed one just doesn't know. Thanks. 3. not worth an 'active' wait then!!! Worth knowing. So - did a complete cleanout (VERY carefully - didn't want to damage 0.7.4!) and reinstalled 0.8.6 from a fresh d/l. Some improvement in that ctrl+V now works when importing from .txt files and the like, and, within the file, ctrl+V throws up the 'plain text' message - but still works! But while playing I found and d/l'd microsoft's Dependency Walker which analyzes what .dlls. etc. are working when the file opens. Now, I definitely d/l'd the 64bit version, but when it opens I get a message saying it (0.8.6) is trying to work off two CPUs: it shows up as much of the program still operating off x86, but about a quarter of it off AMD64. Odd that. Never mind - having bored all but the most intense to death -I'll shut up and thank all again for the explanations and what can and can't be done. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Also works if I right-click in Book View. Never noticed this before this thread. I doubt I've ever tried to paste into Book View, because it used to be a dodgy place to edit anything, as contrasted with Code View. That no longer seems to be the case. |

![]() I think it's a system by system issue with Qt5 like discussed by Kovid and others here, and mentioned by BetterRed in this thread. This post seems especially relevant. |

I'm not so sure. I've just tried this on my netbook running Windows 7 Starter and Sigil 0.8.6 and Ctrl+V didn't work in Book View. Last night on my desktop I checked the Keyboard Shortcuts in Preferences for Paste and its wasn't assigned. I checked the same on the netbook and Paste was assigned to Ctrl+V. When I removed the assignment, Ctrl+V worked in Book View. As a double check I re-assigned Paste to Ctrl+V and lo and behold I couldn't paste using Ctrl+V shortcut. Removed it again & could paste! Bizarre & why would Copy and Cut work with and without a Keyboard Shortcut assignment? |

I can confirm that this method also work with the official 64bit 0.8.6 Windows build. By default, no Paste shortcut key was defined. After adding CTRL+V for the Paste action, I could no longer use CTRL+V to paste text from the clipboard and after removing the CTRL+V shortcut from the Keyboard Shortcuts list of the unofficial 32bit XP legacy build, pasting with CTRL+V worked again.

![]() Perhaps there was an old Qt5 bug that required explicitly setting the Paste shortcut in Sigil's preferences that was fixed later on. Which introduced a new bug that doesn't like ctrl-v being assigned to an app-shortcut (the shortcuts would survive a normal Sigil uninstall/re-install). Regardless ... hopefully removing the (should be) unnecessary ctrl-v assignment in Sigil's shortcuts will fix the issue for those that are having trouble. Thanks for investigating! Sorry to put a dampener on this folks
![]() (as at OP): W7, 0.8.6 installed fresh. Bookview: 'paste' NOT assigned in shortcuts preferences. Ctrl+V: does (sort of) work, but not direct - it throws up the '......clipboard/plaintext' message box and needs an input there before it works - - but then it does, every time. Too many 'alice's here muttering "curiouser and curiouser" - but I'm not helping, having started it am I ![]() |

It may not have always worked this way, but Qt on Windows is clearly detecting when anything other than plain text is in the clipboard and offers the choice of how you want to paste that data. When you copy plain text (from something like notepad or another plain text editor), you don't get the prompt when pasting. Last edited by DiapDealer; 05-15-2015 at 06:43 AM. |

Anyway ("Never start your sentences with 'anyway' [ - my over-zealous English teacher!]") my point about it never happening with 0.7.4 stands - I've never seen that behaviour 'over there' not even when importing from HTML or txt documents out of 'notepad'. Sorry Diapdealer, I seem to have confused you with my report, hence your reply. Hope it's clear now. *Administer smacked wrist to self - me supposed to be a 'proper' scientist used to writing accurate reports!!!* |

Weird. It appears that the underlying QWebview html is what's actually being copied to the clipboard (Show Details on the Messagebox reveals this), but regardless of which option you choose (Yes/No), it appears that the normal paste is working (When copying from Sigil's Book View to Sigil's Book View). Seems to be an issue on the Linux Platform as well.
That's got all the makings of a Qt bug. Will have to do some investigating. This is out of my area, though. I never do any editing in Book View, so I can't say when (what version of Qt/Sigil) this started happening. Last edited by DiapDealer; 05-15-2015 at 07:30 AM. |
