I could probably read more book if I didn't hang out here so much. In my defense, there is so much to learn and I like toys (I like tools too) and I like reading about them. So I'm still "reading", right?

Haven't gotten into the Harry Potter thing, the movies bore me (Harry "the Neverending" Potter). Now, I'll go hide while all the Potter fans take me to task.

Just like almost any book made into a movie the books are better, much richer and contain alot more information. But, to each his or her own. The first book is a quick read.

I mostly agree. I liked the movie version of "Jaws" better than the book because they dropped a sub storyline that I didn't think added anything to the story (the Richard Dreyfus character having an affair with Brody's wife). Both the book and movie version of "The Exorcist" scared the heebee jeebees out of me.

I will read anything that does a good job of pulling you into the story, I do think the last couple Potter books strayed a little. As for book to movie translations I always see the movie first and then read the book(where possible) because I know if I do it the other way around I will always be disappointed.

I use a Cybook, but the principle is the same - in general, if the electronic copy is the same as the hardcopy, I'll buy the ebook.

If it's more than the hardcopy, I - don't buy it until it is.

If it's *only* available in hardcopy, I have become less and less likely to buy the book at all. Most of my more recent paper books have been languishing unread, while I continue to buy (and read) books on my Cybook instead. It's just so much more *convenient*.

I buy Kindle books pretty much exclusively now. I have piles of paper books all over my house and it is an absolute joy to be able to 'feed my habit' without being in danger of causing a paper avalanche. I'm even replacing paper books with Kindle copies and donating the paper ones to a nearby nursing home so they continue to be enjoyed. I look forward to the day when pretty much ALL of my books are e-copies and unmanageable piles of books are a thing of the past.

Funny. I felt the same way about that movie vs book, but no one else seemed to think so........and I never understood the authors reason for putting it in there in the first place.

While I do have a 505, I find the choice has to do with price and availability. If the price is too high and I can get the book via the library, I will get it from the library. But if the price is reasonable, I'll get the eBook.

I rarely buy pbooks anymore. Mostly non-fiction that will probably never be an ebook unless I do it myself.

I find that I haven't bought a lot of new books on the Kindle. I do buy 'pop' paperbacks occasionally, especially if they're much cheaper than for the hard copy versions (I don't like to pay more than $4 for a Kindle 'paperback'). I tend to buy bestsellers after they've been out for a while.

I have bought a couple of expensive technical books on the Kindle, but I've found that I'd rather have a hardcopy. Just about all of my professional and technical library is in hardcopy. The problem with having this on a Kindle is that I can't lend it out, or have two books open at the same time easily and go back and forth between them.

I find that the Kindle has opened up the classics for me. I've downloaded a LOT of public-domain books off of this site (mobileread), as well as from other sites. I've also used my local library to download DRM'd .MOBI ebooks that I read on my Kindle after conversion (I honor the time limits on these and delete them when I'm done... these are usually trade 'paperbacks'). And, I've converted several technical websites to ebooks, and put them on my Kindle for reference.

IMO, for this device to get widespread adoption, Amazon is going to have to update the software so the device is easily usable beyond the Kindle galaxy. Knowledgeable users can already do this... but the Kindle user base has to be much larger than knowledgeable early adopters for the product to start achieving critical mass.
