one more point: there are lots of threads on fragility of e-ink device screens and covers.

bottom line: budget for a protective cover if you plan to travel a lot with your chosen device.

they cost not a lot unless you insist that a real cow dies to provide the materials.

I use this case for my Paperwhite. I carry the PW in my purse everyday and it's done a great job of protecting the PW:

I always insist on buying leather (when available), for my ebook readers. It is my individual choice.

For the sake of argument...

The cow doesn't need to have a say in the matter. The cow is being killed for food anyway, so why on earth would you do something as casually nasty and cruel to the animal as to go to all the effort of killing it and then throwing half of it out?
And then you have to kill its friends for their hides, and waste the meat I suppose?
Humans are the only animal that consider it wrong to kill other types of animal.

Incidentally, did you not internalize Douglas Adams' message about the perils of vegetarianism?

Your are absolutely correct: Any further discussion on the right/wrong of such a purchase belongs in another forum. We call that the P&R Forum, if anyone here is not yet familiar with it.

Discussion on what case we want (or do not want - with the political motivations deleted) belong here.
