AFAIK, only the Chinese and Japanese bilingual dictionaries can be downloaded by all Kindle and Kindle app users.
All other bilingual dictionaries, including the Abbyy Russian<->English dictionaries, only appeared for download after I've installed the 5.6.x firmware update on my PW2 and connected to Amazon via WiFi and PW1 users confirmed that they weren't able to download the bilingual van Dale dictionaries.
BTW, the 5.6.x firmware also added automatic hyphenation for Russian Kindle books.

This will tell ereaders to treat those specific words as Spanish even when the book as a whole is English, thus enabling the Spanish dictionary lookup.

Unless KindleUnpack (first I've ever used it) changed something, they are just wrapped in <em> </em>. (Some English words and phrases are similarly wrapped.)

Well, if the source document doesn't specify an override language, then KindleUnpack won't extract it, and nor will the Kindle use the right dictionary for those words. It will use the dictionary for the language declared, which will fall back on the language the book declares in the OPF.
