Updating the firmware manually to 3.13.1 really is painless. Just download the version appropriate to your Kobo from this thread:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=185660
And follow the instructions in the third post. I updated my Aura HD (using the Glo/HD firmware) to 3.13.1 so that I could have the in-book statistics for non-Kobo Kepubs.

Touch, Mini and Aura are excluded." And then further it gives a link to download the firmware for "Mark 4 Hardware: Glo (+ Aura HD)."
There are two sets of criteria on which device gets which firmware:
  • The devices/locales that Kobo will automatically upgrade the firmware
  • The devices/locales that a firmware version will work on
In the Direct Links to Kobo Firmware thread, I try to present both sets of information.

However, it is always good to be careful about sideloading firmware. Only do so if you need the features in a particular release, and only do so if you are clear on the instructions. You should also read the threads on the particular releases.

Beware though, there is a risk: it is always possible to brick your device if you don't follow the instructions properly. Or if the release is harmful to your device.

Hi SanMes,
It happens on my Aura HD too, but sporadically. It happens on the < Books link at the bottom of the screen, but also on the House button to return to the Home screen, the Remove button in the dialog when I try to delete a book from my device, and the X button in the top right of any settings screen. Not always, just sometimes.

I wonder if it's to do with my screen presses -- they're somehow enough to highlight (i.e. shift focus to) the button, but not bring about the intended action. Often, if I tap the highlighted button again, it will work the second time.

But also, I think the Kobo sometimes forgets what to do with certain prompts. I've found that when this happens, shutting the device down and rebooting it -- reloading the software, essentially -- makes it respond again.

None of this stops it happening, but I've found it helps me get out of the painted-in corner.

I have just tried it now. If I tap the highlighted button more times it works. Odd stuff.
