You broke your screen substrate; this is physical damage and is outside the scope of any warranty.

I bought a used Kobo Touch for my son, and it's working just fine. No telling how old it is. I don't like it, myself, I prefer the Glo (also liked the Mini, the Aura HD, and the Aura). Since the Touch has the hardware home button, there are differences in how the device is used.
If you like to fiddle a lot with settings, the Kobo is a great choice. If you like to just download from the "cloud" and don't really care what the book looks like, the Kindle is great. Reading less than 300 books over a 3 year period has nothing to do with your device getting old or not working right. I am a fiddler and am constantly loading and deleting books from my various kobos, not to mention reading hundreds every year. Your issues were more likely caused by a bad file, since a factory reset fixed it up. The battery life on my Touch is not as good as on my other devices, which may have to do with the age of the device. Batteries don't last forever. The more you use them, the more they degrade. |

I use my Kobo Mini and my oldest Paperwhite for loaning books to friends and neighbors. I have no idea how many books they've read on them but I'd be surprised if both readers haven't been through 500 to 1000 books. Possibly twice that. Both are in like-new condition. I have them in a case when I loan them but probably each has been read by 30 or 40 people over the years, some of whom have dogs, and they've all held up very well.
Before I used them for loaning I'd probably read a couple hundred book on the Paperwhite and a few hundred short stories on the Kobo Mini. These things have been heavily used and held up well. I have full confidence in the durability of both Kobos and Kindles. Barry |

I used a used Kindle NT silver model before I recently purchased my Paperwhite. It worked great! I never had any issues with it. I imagine it was reliable because Amazon sold the silver non-touch Kindle back in 2011 and I just sold mine a couple of months ago. I'm loving my PW as well. I imagine that as long you keep your reader in a good case and treat it well, it should be fine and last a long while.
