Well the reason that I use a kindle not a tablet is I do not want all the distractions of a tablet. I know myself well enough to know that if I used a tablet I would go off web browsing and reading email. My kindle keeps me centered on the books.
The reason I use kindles is because amazon's marketing strategy is to compete by under cutting the competition's prices and that's a behavior that I want to encourage. Amazon also has the Kindle Unlimited program where I typically read $150 worth of books per month for $10. |

the Kindles do tick all boxes except for add -on SD cards.
with those, we get to resurrect the " I can;t live with only 1000 books on my device, I need More! " even though that's one a day for 3 years, & replacements download wirelessly in seconds. I never did get the rationale for must have extra SD card storage & how did folks like that manage with paper books: right we'll need a large car for the holiday trip to take our luggage, + an 18 wheeler truck for my 50,000 must have with me at all times book colleciton |

![]() Anyway, regarding PDF reflow -- I suggest using KOReader on either the Kindle or Kobo. Fortunately, as a third-party addon, it is available for both. (Unfortunately, as Amazon has hardened the latest firmware, you cannot jailbreak the latest devices short of opening the case and using the serial port.) Alternatively, k2pdfopt (provides the dynamic PDF reflow in KOReader) can also be used as a desktop tool to resize PDFs beforehand. |

![]() From what I read, these complains are also often for specific devices (pw1, voyage). The pw2 seems to be universally loved. |

My recommendation would always be a Kindle, even though I have a Kobo as well.
For those that don't 'free' their books Amazon have a better choice, lower prices, and no risk of buying a PDF if that's all the publisher sends to Kobo (and yes I know one publisher that does that, and DRM'd PDFs even though they sell DRM free epub on their own site ![]() ![]() ![]() Amazon also have a better eco system as well, with Send to Kindle. Cloud storage, whispersync and wifi delivery of your own ebooks. I like my Kobo but they can't and don't compare to Amazon overall. Last edited by Josieb1; 03-24-2015 at 05:06 PM. |

I am a huge fan of my Kobo Aura HD. Love the screen, love the features, only one bug that annoys me, and as I've moved to reading PDFs on a 7" tablet, I don't care about that much either.
Also, I'm Canadian. Kobo allows me access to library e-book loans. Amazon can't be bothered. |

It sounds like the kobo might be a better fit with its sd capabilities.
