@Doitsu: Thanks, that at least means it's not a sneaky .6 change .

@Lightevilaster: Stab in the dark, check if this KUAL build works.

It used to work fine for me also on 5.6.1.0.6 until one day KO reader froze, I restarted the device and KAUL started to give an error"cannot start an application, try again later", or smth like this. Tried reboots and waits, finally decided to reset and now I get this strange error "Restarting your kindle. The item failed to close properly"

Ah, that makes more sense. One of the filesystems probably got one conk on the head too many. If a factory reset doesn't help, try to reinstall the latest firmware version, although I'm not actually sure the downgrade 'protection' won't also prevent you from reinstalling the exact same version, in which case you're mostly screwed (because that leaves doing it over ssh in diags, which is non-trivial).

Yeah, I have heard about serial port hardcore ways On the amazon website it says that it should not work (if you copy a corrupt version or the same newest version, update my kindle should be greyed out), but I will try nevertheless How do you think will a new firmware update from amazon have any chance to fix it?In other words: does it make sense to continue the thread if it still going to behave in such a way after a new version comes out?

PW2 updates rewrite the full rootfs, so, barring hardware failure, there's a chance it might help if the FS is corrupt.

I do not really see how it can be a hardware failure, eveything else works seemlessly Thank you very much for your help, it put me to rest. I think I will be one of the few who impatiently waits for the next amazon OTA update I will continue the thread when I get it. Thank you once again for your time^^
