This is the first time I've ever seen such a result (Sigil displays it as you would want, while Kindle stalls). What happens if you upload your uncorrected epub to Epubcheck at http://validator.idpf.org/ ? Last edited by Notjohn; 03-05-2015 at 07:02 AM. |

Or even install the Epubcheck plugin directly in Sigil. Back now to trying to work out just WTF Lulu is objecting to in a perfectly well-formed and checked-out EPUB. The customer wants it to go on Lulu, so it must go on Lulu... |

Doesn't Lulu use an ancient version of ePUBCheck?

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>How to kill your loved ones with Food and get away with it</title> <link href="../Styles/epub.css" rel=" stylesheet" type=" text/ css" /> </head> <body> <p class="large" style="text-align: center;">Notjohn’ s Guide to Kindle Publishing</p> <p class="medium" style="text-align: center;">Ten Steps To Formatting Your E-Book for Sale on Amazon (Or Anywhere Else)</p> <p class="small" style="text-align: center;">N.J. The TOC
On the Sigil when I click on Chapter one I believe it is suppose to bring you to the anchor "chapter01" but nothing happens. Here is the code for my TOC.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>How to kill your loved ones with Food and get away with it</title> <link href="../Styles/epub.css" rel=" stylesheet" type=" text/ css" /> </head> <body> <h2 id="toc" style="text-align: center;">Contents</h2> <p class="center" style="text-align: center;"><a href="#chapter01">Chapter One</a></p> <p class="center" style="text-align: center;"><a href="#chapter02">Chapter Two</a></p> <p class="center" style="text-align: center;"><a href="#chapter03">Chapter Three</a></p> <p class="center" style="text-align: center;"><a href="#chapter04">Chapter Four</a></p> <p class="center" style="text-align: center;"><a href="#chapter05">Chapter Five</a></p> <p class="center" style="text-align: center;"><a href="#copy">Copyright - About the Author</a></p> </body> </html> And here is the code for chapter 1, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>How to kill your loved ones with Food and get away with it</title> <link href="../Styles/epub.css" rel=" stylesheet" type=" text/ css" /> </head> <body> <!--And now the text chapters, as many as you like--> <p class=" breakhere"></p> <h2 id="chapter01">Chapter One</h2> <p class="first"><!--The first paragraph is flush left with a few words capitalized--></p> <p><!--Following paragraphs are indented, and each ends with a closing tag--></p> <div> <br /> </div> </body> </html> |

If you have broken your file into multiple files or sections, as is usually done in epubs, then the TOC pointer can't find the "chapter01" anchor. This is what one of my TOC entries looks like:
<p class="center"><i>Map: <a href="../Text/Section0002.htm#invasion"> |

Great!! It works.
What does this part of the code mean? <i>Map: <a href="../Text/Section0002.htm#invasion"> To be exact the <i> tag and the #invasion. In order for me to get it to work I had to take out the #invasion and put "l". So it reads <i>Map: <a href="../Text/Section0002.html"> instead. |

Now that I think about it when I use the center class for my <p> the text should be centered because of the code in my css. Do you know why I would have to click the center button in Sigil to get my text centered when the css should be taking care of that through the classes I use? My css is inside the book Browser in the styles folder.

Show us your stylesheet. Some readers/conversions tolerate errors. Others ignore the whole stylesheet following an error.

Even though it doesn't seem to trip up ADE, WebKit, or all EPUB validators, there is simply no good reason for leaving/introducing leading spaces in single-value class attributes. Even if it wasn't potentially tripping up Amazon's conversion tools, there's just no good reason for those spaces to be there. As to your second example, yes... we'd need to see the css that's being applied. As exaltedwombat said; a single syntax error in the css file can get the whole shebang ignored. If your code no work, there is some sort of an error
CSS h2 { margin_top: 1em:text-align: center; page-break-before: always;} I really recommend you not do the 1 big book file thing. It will be bog slow on low power devices If you make an error ![]() |
