Eureka - Problem fixed
After trying all the suggestions and failing to solve the issue, I remembered that I had Calibre 2.0 on an older machine with the DRM plug-in that worked.
So I removed Calibre's latest version and installed 2.0, then the plug-in, and it now works fine. Somehow the latest version seems to have a conflict with something in my machine. With 10 TB of applications and data, it would have been far too much work to try to find the conflict (and still might not have). But 2.0 does everything I need from Calibre, so I'm now a happy camper. Mahalo nui loa (Hawaiian: Thanks very much) to all who took the time to lend a hand. |

Did you activate the new pc with Adobe. If not, that explains all the above issues. Adobe ID needs to be in New pc registry.

![]() Same goes with whatever other book sources were tried. Kindle for PC needs to be registered before you can download books with it. Actually, it doesn't make a hoot of a difference. What does matter is configuring the plugin and checking that a key exists, and trying to manually add a new one. The plugin will try to derive a new key under certain conditions automatically. Including, IIRC, if there is no key available. But that happens at plugin activation, not at plugin installation. @OP, if the old version works, the new version should too. They share the same configuration and the same keys. Last edited by eschwartz; 05-02-2015 at 11:50 PM. |

given all the info , my money is still on a activation/ install sequence error.
the plug-in in question ( which we still don't discuss in detail ? ) configures itself ( for me anyway), so I hypothesize that when installing it looks for the adobe key that it will be needing later, thus sequence needs to be install & activate ADE, then install PI. the above could be tested & proved/disproved easily enough, but i don't want to mess up my good set up just to find that out. The PI author probably knows already I cant construct any other theory for why different versions of calibre are behaving differently, if they are using same versions of ADE, same PI , same Adobe ID, and same original books ? #16 suggests the OP does not want to play bug hunt with us, so we may never know, but if there was an issue with latest calibre ( or latest at the time that he posted) I'm sure we'd be hearing about it from others. I have not bought anything that needed a de drm in last 7 days so I can't personally attest that all is still good.... Last edited by cybmole; 05-03-2015 at 01:15 AM. |

I agree the issue is most likely configuration sequence. Manually configuring the key would be an excellent way to find out exactly what happened. That is the only issue I can think of -- surely another program interfering would crash calibre rather than targeting a specific plugin with military precision? And like I said, the rules for automatic key derivation are inexact, so it is best not to rely on them if one is having issues.
