I thought Alf tools could be used without the calibre PI. Not sure how they would fit with ADE/Kobo though, as I don't have either of them.

True. Although one must then install python and pycrypto -- calibre is simpler IMO even if you just import and export, just because it is easier to set up.

As a linux user that wouldn't be a problem for me, nor for Mac users -- because python and openssl (alternate crypto) are part of the OS.

Forum guidelines say we can post links to other peoples' tutorials even if we cannot make our own tutorials here.

Once they are DeDRMed, you can use calibre to transfer the books via its library features, or use the Windows File Explorer and copy over your *.epub files onto the Kobo drive.

You cannot remove the DRM from kepub without Calibre as the program to remove kepub DRM and the program to remove the kepub bits and turn the book back to an ePub are both Calibre Plugins. One is Obok and the other is Modify ePub.

Which is of course not true. The script to "free" kepubs existed a long time before the plugin did. And there is no code in a kepub that is not valid code in an epub. And removing the spans in Sigil or some other text editor would just take a little regex magic.

Kobo is the most common e-ink reader for ADE epubs as well as Kobo kepubs, I should think.
