I eventually tried this but the result was a total mess. The desktop downloaded the update but when I tried to delete the files before ejecting it beat me to it and I lost contact with the Glo from the PC. The only option then was to physically disconnect and trigger the update. Then I discovered that the dictionaries hadn't been downloaded.

Result is I'm now running 3.12.1 which is what I wanted to avoid. I got the dictionaries by connecting over WiFi then synching, the desktop synch didn't seem to download the dictionaries.
