Thank you all for your input in this thread. Feeling much better about making this purchase and eagerly awaiting its delivery. There sure is a wealth of knowledge at this site.

There is a concern about ebooks that is not clear in my head. Ownership.

When we make an ebook purchase, say at Kobo, we do own the data file, yes? Are we "allowed" to manage this file as we see fit, or is it anchored at Kobo?

I have purchased and downloaded several ebooks from other sources and have those files saved to the hd. At the one merchant, there were 3 formats available, so I downloaded one of each, didn't know what I was going to do for the long run. Presently using Calibre and Adobe reader without issues reading from the desktop computer.

So the format was probably epub, pdf and mobi. If epub is available always choose that(no problems). Pdf is generally slow on reflow and mobi has had some formatting issues (although you may not experience any problems with mobi, epub is more failsafe for kobo imho)

Gotcha, epub as default unless something changes, thanks Christopher.

Just received the H2O, 8 days after placing the order, shipped to Michigan, USA.

During setup, it upgraded firmware, loaded 4 books from desktop and now shows version 3.7.0. All in 4 minutes via USB.

Guess I will finish the Rob Lowe book 'Stories I only Tell My Friends' on the H2O.

Thanks to everyone who shared their advice.

Sadly, it would appear the opinion is that we have a license for and not ownership of the ebook. This leads to questions around reselling an used ebook as an example.

Well excuse me H2O, after ejecting it went through the upgrade on the device. Now runs 3.12.
