Would anything prevent him from using a free wordpress site then redirecting his domain name there, perhaps with 'cloaking', at the DNS level?
I used to do this with my ISP-provided free sites. Then he can try wordpress totally for free and easily redirect users elsewhere if he decided to move to another host. Last edited by ApK; 02-03-2015 at 09:00 AM. |

For clarification on Wordpress.com blogs and commercial sites, here's their policy:

I didn't know that WordPress had a custom domain option, so I assumed that it must be independent. Happy to learn something.-)

Wordpress software is offered as part of my web hosting package (which I've had for decades).
When deciding on doing a blog as well, I tried it out as trying out Blogger (now part of Google) and decided that Blogger was the better choice because it was much more straight-forward to use. I'm more than happy with my decision at this point. |

If your goal is to promote your writing, I suggest using a simple blogger account. It is completely free to have a blog. Optionally, you can get a customized domain name such as drdribbooks.com for $10-$20 a year. You can have posts about your books and other things on the blog, while having a link to your books at the side of every page. Every time that you make a post on your blog, you can tweet it on twitter and post it to multiple facebook groups to drive a lot of traffic to your site. You can easily implement a paypal button for people to buy the book and configure it to take them to the download link once the payment is confirmed, or simply post a link to your amazon book page. You can also put non-invasive ads on your blogs to make some additional revenue from your site and blog posts.
I hope I gave you a little idea of how you can promote your books. I can attest that since I started my blog, my sales have increased on amazon. I hope that you will have the same fortune as well. |
