Intel is launching a total of seven separate NUC configurations, five that are aimed at the consumer market and two that are intended for use in businesses.

On the consumer side, there are three motherboard configurations: the low-end model gets you a Core i3-5010U with the HD Graphics 5500 GPU, the middle model comes with a Core i5-5250U and the HD 6000 GPU, and the high-end model includes a Core i7-5557U CPU and an Iris 6100 GPU (the first time Iris has made it into the NUC, though the Iris Pro GPU with embedded eDRAM would be more exciting). The Core i3 and Core i5 models are available in "short" compact chassis and "tall" boxes with space for a 2.5-inch hard drive, while the Core i7 model only comes in tall. Past NUCs required users to install their own Wi-Fi cards, but all of these come with 867Mbps 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 courtesy of Intel's soldered-in 7265 adapter.

Forgive me for sounding dense, but are these mini-computers you can hook up to your tv?

They're micro-computers you can hook up to your tv.

Why did you have to correct that. I had a chuckle over the image of a minicomputer hooked up to a TV:

I have a friend who'll probably get one so he can fire up the Kindle app and read while he's on the exercise bike. Gotta squeeze in that extra chapter each day...

I do a bunch of book curating on Booklikes, so to be able to sit on the couch and open up several firefox tabs on the tv with a bluetooth keyboard sounds really appealing :-D

I'm using a previous gen NUC right now. i5-4250 hard drive variant. Linux Mint 17 as my "dirty" machine. An identical one next it as my "sterile" machine. (Named Hugo and Lefty, for the cognoscentii) And a HDMI switcher between the two...

Less that 20 watts TDP each, max load....

(And I run Windows XP Pro as a virtual machine on the "sterile" box, courtesy of VirtualBox...)

While something like the PC on a stick is handy because it is out-of-the-way and has low power requirements, you may be able to do the same thing with your existing computer. Many laptops, desktops, tablets, and mobile phones already support HDMI and bluetooth. It's simply a matter of getting a bluetooth keyboard and mouse so that you can use them comfortably.

Sure.
The HP Stream 11 is in the same general ballpark at $199 for similar specs but the appeal of the stick is the form factor. Much like the FireTV stick it is something you stick in your pocket and move on.

In the business world where some companies don't assign offices to their sales personnel these sticks could be useful. A stick in the pocket is harder to steal than a laptop.

Or any other wireless keyboards/mice.

Logitech's Unifying receiver keyboards/mice are nice because they don't interfere with near by systems.

Exactly. I can't fit a laptop on my entertainment center. I want something I can stick on top of my bluray player and then just forget about it...

On that...
The intel linux version rins Ubuntu and apparently all the other sticks at the show can run ubuntu:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/28683...t-desktop.html

Versions with pre-installed ubuntu and the Windows spec should be available soon.
If not, the DIY approach works.
It has been done.
