Me, too. I don't consider it wasted space. I especially like the footer, where I have the option set to show what page I am on out of the page count of the entire book, rather than the page count of the chapter. I would not want to be without that!

I use all side loaded kepubs.

I have the footer but not the header when I use epub, and I like it that way.

I don't necessarily need the header that the Kobo shows with kepubs--I know the name of the book of reading usually ; but I do like the option of showing the number of pages (screen turns) in an individual chapter that the kepub format gives you. It gives me a good indicator of how long it will take to get to the end of a chapter at a glance. So, I put up with having the header to get the kepub footer. I do wish I could customize the information displayed in the header/footers so that I could have a clock in the corner of the screen and maybe the percentage of the book read.

KOreader has those features for epubs that have chapters. The footer/progress bar is fully configurable, with all that you mention available, plus a battery percent. The default is with the footer only, but you can set it to include a header with the book title.

Could you point me to where in KOreader you configure the footer bar?

Probably the easiest way is using the "Advanced settings" in the File Manager menus under the crossed wrench and screwdriver icon.

On page 2:

DCREREADER_PROGRESS_BAR = 1 (the default footer only)
DCREREADER_PROGRESS_BAR = 0 (both header and footer)

On page 4:

The "DMINIBAR" entries.

Luck;

I actually can't see the default footer. Maybe I am missing the "show header and footer" setting. Where is it?

Which version of KOreader are you on? I have the current version 2014.11-15. The advanced settings were added a number of versions ago, and the footer settings have been in the "defaults.lua" and the "defaults.persistent.lua" files for quite awhile now. You can use "Notepad++" to read and edit those directly, if the menu approach is not available.

I almost forgot; there is also a bottom menu item (in the reader menu, the one you have when you are in a book) above the gear icon, that lets you select "Full" or "Mini" Progress Bar.

Also, this may not work in PDFs, as the reader engines are different, it may though as most features are implemented in a similar fashion for both.

Luck;
Ken

I can change the setting to 0, but either ways I just see the header and not the footer.

After you make the changes you have to restart Koreader, for the settings to remain. This is on your Kobo Touch? Which version of Koreader? Can you see all of an image file, is the bottom being displayed? I seem to remember that there was a problem on the H2o, with the screen dimensions not set correctly.

Kobo Touch, ksm 2014.11.19, Koreader 2014.11.
I did restart KOreader, and went trough nickel (which looks mandatory to save settings).
The fact is that DCREADER PROGRESS BAR is supposed to show the header *also*. But it is the footer, which I probably should see from the beginning, that I don't see. I do see the header with the "full" option at "progress bar".
I suspect that I am missing a basic setting to show/don't show the header and footer.

This has gotten way off topic. What do you see when you poke the bottom right corner? It should cycle through the progressbar options, including no footer.
