I think it's mostly a subjective thing. The font isn't that much different in size from others but it does look darker (which makes it easier to read than a liter colored font), perhaps because it is a tiny bit smaller. I don't know. It does look good though I admit.

Coming from someone who works with fonts. Bookerly is more a Serif font what Caecilia is a Slab-Serif. Bookerly is also more condense and has a little more weight on it. It reminds me of Times Roman meet some curves from Caecilia. I don't really like it but it probably the darkest font next to Lucida on on the Kindle Fire now. Why can't they give us Trebuchet back for me that was most readable. Get rid of Baskerville it's too light to use. Darken Palatino would be nice.

Your screen shots do show things much better. I do like Bookish better then Caecilia. At the same font size, you are able to get more text on a line and that can mean more text per page. The bold italic is much more noticeable to the differences. I do think bookish should replace Caecilia on all Kindles. That would make things a little better.

Ps, the claims of more text per line are false according to my tests. using the kindle fire native app and also using the same fonts loaded into mantano reader premium ( sideloaded to same Kindle fire), then flipping between bookerly and Cecilia I get same number of words per line and same number of lines per page. I do see a difference - so the font change IS working, but it is subtle if someone thinks different ,perhaps they can post screenshots Last edited by HarryT; 01-10-2015 at 03:26 AM. |

sorry, honest misake - its a font not a book, and not somehting that has to be paid for.
I thought that if it was copyright then you'd say so & I@d take it down again, I did not expect such a harsh response. and I could argue that as it arrived, unsolicited, on my kindle, with no T&C attached, i.e. no "agree to terms and accept" procedure , then it's a gift for me to do as I wish with - ( but happy NOT to argue that in this forum if you'd rather we stop here. |

The only differences I can see is that tail letters are 1 pixel shorter; and the lower case 'a' is slightly different, the bottom half is shorter on Bookerly. I didn't stop and compare every letter in both upper and lower case, but letter width and height both seem identical (with the exception of the tail letters as noted), spacing within words seems identical, spacing between lines seems identical. |

It exists several variations of the Ceacilia font (size is for the regular one):
Caecilia (Kramola) 134KB Caecilia Cond (Kramola) 202KB Caecilia_LT_Cond (Kindle) 110KB Caecilia_LT_Extra_Cond (Kindle) 110KB May be less info in the specific versions for Kindle? |

Yeah because of course typeface designs are totally unworthy of copyright and licensing protection and no one should expect to be able to make money designing typefaces or to have any control over their designs.

The two Kindle versions don't actually exist. It's the standard Caecilia being made condensed by the Kindle software.

Do a search for Caecilia Extra Cond
and some says that Amazon make specific (and largely modified) versions of Caecilia for the Kindle's products. Last edited by albaran; 06-24-2015 at 10:44 AM. |
