I may be missing something, but it sounds like a pen and paper would best meet your primary needs.

Personally, I use this for notes:
http://www.livescribe.com/en-us/smartpen/echo/

I can't read my own handwriting most of the time, so the audio recording is perfect for me, and it still let's me capture bullet points or diagrams in an easy, electronically accessible way.
And even with my bad handwriting, the character recognition software is good enough that I can usually search for what need.

Dear Apk,

I was surprised to see the livescrib.

The thing is, as I am a psychologist i write all day on paper. The place is full of papers, the files are full of paper. I do have a bad handwritting too, espacially I seem to write too big. (three to four pages a session)
So a e-ink tablet like device would save me paper, but also and more important space.
I'll consider the livescribe but as i understand it is neede to write on the special paper?

Is there a kind fo way to fool the system and write on somthing reusable? i do not need the paper notes. I only need the content.

Many greetings,
Koen

You can of course pre-order the NoteSlate and see how it turns out. I expect it will do handwriting and nothing else at first, with additional functions added over the next years.
If you need something that's available today (and not a used device off Ebay) then I recommend the Onyx Boox M96. It's a 9.7-inch Android tablet with e-ink screen. You can install any number of writing apps on it, I use LectureNotes with great results. You can also read ebooks, browse the web, do email, read rss feeds, listen to internet radio, play chess, etc. etc. etc.

And a price to match. With the cheapest at $800 + $99 for the pencil. It also doesn't match the requirement: no high-tech tablet. If that one wasn't specified, I'd say search for a nice second hand SP3.

The OP decided that "not high tech" was a criterion closely linked to battery life, which isn't the case. The iPad Pro is specced at ten hours of battery life, so it should get a good 7-8 (maybe even more) in practice. That's better than many smaller, "lower tech" tablets.

Budgets of "around $700" stretch another $200 all the time, so I think it's a pretty good suggestion.

I was thinking e-ink only. If this isn't a requirement, then the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 or 10 inch) is, in my opinion, much better value than the Ipad Pro. Unless you need the giant screen and money is not an issue.

Problem is, the Note 8 (which I love!) is no longer up to date (nor on sale unless you search well for a second hand one). Samsung never made a new version of it. There is a newer one that has S-pen support, but that's from the Galaxy Tab A line. With a horrible screen. (9.7" and 1024x768 resolution???? Even my ancient HTC Flyer, 7", already had that resolution!). The Tab A line is the budget version of the S line. And the S line doesn't have the S-pen (strangely enough)

Eink wasn't mentioned as a requirement, and the OP did say they wanted a backlight as well as web browsing, so I assumed they were after a tablet. Does the Note have good handwriting recognition and palm rejection?

While I can think of a couple POSSIBLE ways to fool the system like you describe, none of them strike me as remotely practical.
You can, for example, write with the stylus insert (or just an empty ink cartridge) and capture your pen strokes while not making marks on the paper, but you wouldn't be able to see what you were writing, or refer back to previous writing without a computer.

If you truly do not need to keep the paper, only the content (no medical records requirements?) you could simply shred and recycle the notepads once they are filled.

For that matter you could scan your current notebooks and then get rid of them as well.
Converting paper to electronic documents happens to be part of the field I work in.....
