I have another PW2 working fine and I'm happy to have this one for testing. I am seeing it as a challenge bringing it back to life.
Some insights about how to proceed? I connected it to a Windows machine and got some action, it doesn't load as a mass storage device, but definitely something is going on. I installed USBlyzer to try to sniff what is going on but something weird happened, keyboard and mouse stopped working, maybe something messed up the USB controllers. I am suspecting my only option is to access it over serial port (I'm already building the 3.3V to 1.8V converter to use with the USB RS232), so that's what I got for now. Any advices are welcome. |

Hi, I got to work again on my bricked kindle and have a couple updates and new questions.
I am following https://gist.github.com/TobiasWooldr...ca75190b9a473f to unbrick it. I made the internal wiring for the USB adapter, I hit Enter on the computer to enter bootloader and it shows a "Recovery Menu" image but nothing on the computer side. After a while, the kindle shows the image with the tree and a person reading and does nothing more. I am using 115200,8,N,2 Edit: I am using 115200,8,N,1 Any help is appreciated, thanks. I'm not sure I got it right.
Are you saying that you voided your Kindle warranty rather than returning it to amazon? |

Besides, the fact that they ship the replacement before receiving the return is not relavant. As they claim they will charge you the replacement's price if you fail to send the return, they could as well do the same if they cared to check the return for signs of tampering. |

Totally unknown.
Only Amazon could say. It isn't a question of 'bother' - it is a question of money. The cost to open and/or inspect returned Kindles is more than the cost (to Amazon) of the Kindle. Quote:

Manpower, even automated manpower, is expensive. The return goes into a big bin, which re-furbisher's bid on, by the bin. So very unlikely to happen. The "claim" is made to reserve their right to do so. And the only instance I know of, was in a case of a combined owner/re-furbisher who tried to get away with hundreds of Kindles. Plus, you can also always avoid the charge-back - Just disable the credit card you have on file with them after the replacement is shipped. (Which also makes the sequence of item movements relevant.) The warranty reads:

As for the rest, I wouldn't say that replacing any kindle one sends back for any reason is cost effective for them. It's more a market penetration thing. It won't last forever (even if, as a customer, I hope it will last as long as possible). Yeah ok, this would materially prevent them to charge the fee on your CC, but you would still legally owe them the amount. Last edited by guerrilla; 02-05-2015 at 05:06 PM. |

A totally pointless exchange, it does not happen.
