The Calvin and Hobbes books can't be used with Kindle for PC. I was thinking of getting them, but that means the drm can't be stripped.

Glad I passed on them. That reminds me of Barnes & Noble's silly "Nook kids read to me" formatted books that are incompatible with... just about everything Nook. Only works on the iPad and apparently not even 100% of the time.

What's really insanely stupid about this is all the Calvin & Hobbes collections are out there for anyone who wants to pirate them, so this only hurts people actually willing to pay for them.

Edit: Although, I think the "tools" will work from books on eInk kindles. The FAQ seems to reference how to set that up.

Yes the tools work on eink kindles, but Calvin and Hobbes doesn't. I don't think the tools work on Kindle for Win 8 or Android either and I've seen regular books not compatible with Win for PC as well.

I bought all 6 of the ones on sale. I was able to use these 3 on my Kindle 4 NT e-ink device, as well as the Cloud Reader. I wouldn't necessarily recommend reading them on an e-ink device, but it was possible.

No idea if tools work on such large files, though. All are over 100MB, I believe.

The Kindle Fires are just Android tablets actually, with a slightly modified Kindle reader app. The tools can't import books from them because of that.

They will work on larger files, I just tried converting the 145MB The Stories: Five Years of Original Fiction on Tor.com and it did it fine, took it over six minutes though.
