I have searched the Calibre User manual and can find nothing that addresses "save as" option. I am using Calibre 2.12. Is there a newer version?

Actually, it's directory, not folder.

Open the book however you please to begin your editing session.
Before you do anything, use the Save A Copy As option to save a backup.

Sorry, I'm just dense. Does it matter if we call it a folder or a directory? It still contains the files I've been saving as various iterations of the book. And whatever it's called, it doesn't offer a "save as" option. I'll just continue using the Save a Copy option and closing the current file and opening the copy to do the work. I really do appreciate your effort to help me.

As Editor One points out, the calibre book editor has no Save As, it has Save and Save Copy.

Many (most ?) other editing programs have Save and Save As.

The point I was trying to make before
The typical Save as allows a format change (eg jpg->BMP)
Save a Copy only allow the same (current) format

It helps the person using the incorrect term to use the correct term.

It's been a directory from the day directories were invented.. Just because the icon used in Windows looks like a folder doesn't make it any less of a directory.

Now to contribute to the topic of the thread.

The solution to the problem is to copy the eBook and then edit it. Then just save. You'll have a backup in case you need it.

Yes, email programs and folders.. Perfect use for the term folders. But when it actually is a filesystem directory, then call it a directory because that is what it is.

Some good examples...

Calibre stores each eBook in a separate directory.
Collections on your Reader are folders
