Here's the Paperwhite home page. It also has space used up by recommendations.

So B&N has cleaned up the main screen some. I still don't like the partitioned storage. It's just silly to pay about $99 for 500mb of storage for side loading.

There are people with total B&N brand loyalty, I imagine, and if you are only going to buy from B&N, then it has more storage. But I agree, that is a negative in my opinion too. Despite my user name, I have no brand loyalty at all. And I do not like B&N's customer service, or lack thereof.

Here are some images from the UI of the Kobo firmware. I especially like the second one showing a very nice cover view in the library.

I just got one of these (a PW2) and am still figuring things out. There is a setting buried somewhere that will disable that on the home page, even if you have the "special offers" version.

How do you get that second view? -- is it available in the Glo? I don't like the standard "hodge podge" home view. I guess I like my books to "line up" in a row.

When I turn on my Nooks they either open up to the book I'm reading or Library View -- I almost never see or go to the Home Screen. You can do that with the Nooks as their menu system doesn't depend on the Home Screen, unlike the Kindle.
(And, don't get me wrong, I like the way Kindles work also -- they're just different.) Last edited by rcentros; 12-12-2014 at 01:24 AM. |

... Here it is (below). With a Nook you only go to the Home Screen if you specifically want to. There's no Home Button like you find in the old Kindles -- or even on the Home Button on the Screen of the new ones. So comparing Home Screen to Home Screen only matters to Nook users who want to look at the Home Screen. You can use your Nook for the rest of your life without ever seeing it (I guess you would see it if you have to turn on the Nook from a complete shut down). You can also use a List View in the Library View -- like the old Kindles. ![]() Last edited by rcentros; 12-12-2014 at 01:49 AM. |

![]() I prefer my home button to take me directly home to my library. Why have a home screen leading to an extra button press, when I could just skip it altogether? it is awkward and serves no purpose... clumsy UI... |

But, at any rate, how you get to the Home Screen really wasn't my point -- my point was you don't have to use the Home Screen -- ever. And, yes, you press the Nook "N" button and choose Library (or you can choose Home, or Shop, or Search or Settings -- and on the Glowlight version, "Glowlight"). It takes two key presses (just like the Kobo and the new Kindles). One thing, however, that it superior in my opinion, is that you can always go directly back to the book you're reading from any Screen, by pressing the Book Icon in the upper left corner. At any rate, you can just use to the Library View, if you find the Home Screen is too ugly. You'll never have to see the Home Screen again. Last edited by rcentros; 12-12-2014 at 03:31 AM. |
