Dave - normal or not, yellow is not an acceptable color for my eyes. I had to buy 5 PW2s (2014 model) to get 2 that were on the white side. One is very nice and white like the part of the Voyage that is "normal" and the other is slightly less white, but is acceptable for bedroom reading.
Having 5 side by side, it was easy to see that the PW2 screens do come in a lot of variations of color from white all the way to yellows. If you're not comfortable with the color, you shouldn't keep it. |

Here you go. I've used the white paper to set a reference white balance on my DSLR, so the colour should be pretty accurate, but I should stress that the visual appearance of the screen varies considerably depending on the lighting conditions.

Paperwhite 2's are supposed to be a cream colour. Not white and not yellow. The Paperwhite 1's were blue white but the 2's use the Carta screen which is more a cream colour. Is it possible to take yours to a store that might have a demo model you can compare it against, or do you know anyone who has one you could compare yours too?
If your really unhappy either return it as faulty or ask Amazon for a replacement. |

It's primarily the lighting that determines the colour, rather than the screen itself. The Kobo H2O also uses a Carta screen, but it was a lot warmer in tone (ie yellower) than my PW2.

Mine is yellowish too
Once I thought of it as Sepia, I was pleased.
Ignoring the photo's blurriness, you can see with the PW2's light off (realizing that the light set to off still gives off a very faint glow), that your choices of background color is gray or less gray. You won't find a white background in e-Ink (yet). If you didn't get a yellowish background, you'd get some degree of gray. Of course, with the PW2's light blasting, the screen looks white. My PW2 has a white screen, no yellow to it at all. One of my Kobo Glos has a slight yellowish cast to it, while the other 2 are pure white, but even that one isn't as yellow as yours is. If you're comfortable with the color, keep it. If not, return it and get another one.
